Minor Surgery

The practice operates a minor surgery clinic every Thursday morning from 09:00 – 12:00.

Cervical Screening Programme

We are registered with the National Cervical Screening Programme which provides free smear tests to women aged 25 – 60.  You no longer need a letter of invitation from CervicalCheck and should contact us to make an appointment. CervicalCheck does send out letters to those on their register and you can check if you are on it on Freephone 1800 45 45 55 or online at www.cervicalcheck.ie.

Heartwatch Clinic

The Heartwatch Programme is a national programme which is designed to monitor and assist patients who have had a previous cardiac event i.e. heart attack, bypass surgery, stent. The clinic assesses risk factors such as weight, blood pressure, cholesterol,  smoking and advises and supports patients to make lifestyle modifications to reduce their risk factors in order to avoid further cardiac events.

Our HEARTWATCH Programme involves quarterly visits to the nurse and some doctor visits. It includes blood tests, ECG’s and 24 hour BP monitoring. We currently provide the service free of charge to GMS patients.

Travel Vaccinations

We provide professional advice and a full range of vaccinations for people travelling abroad. Vaccination is a highly effective method of preventing certain infectious diseases.

Venesection Services for Medical Card holders

Venesection is a simple procedure in which a qualified nurse removes blood from you, via a vein in your arm. Venesection is usually a regular treatment performed at varying intervals, depending on your blood results and diagnosis.

We provide venesections free of charge for GMS patients who hold a medical card or a GP visit card. Patients no longer have to attend hospital for diagnosis or treatment. Most private health insurance companies cover the service free for their customers. 

Haemochromatosis is a hereditary condition, in which excessive amounts of iron are absorbed from the diet.  This iron is deposited in various organs, mainly in the parenchymal cells of the liver and also in the pancreas, heart, anterior pituitary and joints.

Haemochromatosis is more common in Ireland than anywhere else in the world. One in 83 Irish people carry two copies of the HFE gene and are predisposed to develop iron overload. One in five Irish people carry one copy of the gene and are said to be carriers.
